The Frick NGC300 rotary screw compressor functions primarily as a gas processing and gathering compressor rather than a traditional refrigeration unit.
The Frick NGC300 is heavily utilized for several critical processing functions:
• Gas Gathering and Field Boosting: Used to compress low-pressure natural gas straight from the wellhead or gathering lines to a higher pressure necessary for transport to centralized processing plants.
• Vapor Recovery Units (VRUs): Captures low-pressure flash gases and hydrocarbon vapors escaping from crude oil or condensate storage tanks, compressing them back into the main pipeline to prevent flaring and emissions.
• Midstream NGL / Propylene Refrigeration: Used in gas processing plants for deep-chill refrigeration loops (using refrigerants like propylene or propane) to condense and separate Natural Gas Liquids (NGLs) from the methane stream
• Fuel Gas Boosting: Raises the pressure of processed natural gas to feed large industrial gas turbines or gas engines driving midstream equipment.
Engineering Features
• Variable Volume Ratio (Vi) & Stepless Capacity Control: The NGC300 features two independent, hydraulically actuated internal slide valves. This lets the compressor automatically match its internal volume ratio to shifting pipeline pressures, completely eliminating power penalties caused by under- or over-compression—a frequent challenge in unstable field gathering networks.
• Sour and Acid Gas Tolerance: Midstream gases are frequently dirty. The NGC300 can reliably compress sour gas (H₂S) and acid gas (CO₂) mixtures. When paired with specialized synthetic "NG" oils containing heavy-duty corrosion inhibitors, it resists the acidic condensation that destroys standard compressors.
• Internal Gear Customization: The unit features interchangeable internal gearsets that allow it to be seamlessly direct-coupled to either electric motors or field-standard natural gas engines (like a CAT G3412). Mechanics can change these gearsets directly in the field without pulling the bare compressor from the skid.
• Integrated Heavy-Duty Features: It is built with an integrated suction strainer to catch pipeline particulates before they hit the rotors and features a robust anti-friction bearing system rated for an L₁₀ design life exceeding 100,000 hours.
