This Design Appraisal Document replaces document number SDAC/2092067 Issue number 0 issued on 03 March 2020, which is hereby superceded.
1. The documents listed below, have been examined for compliance with the design requirements of the codes EN 12079 (2006), DNV 2.7-1 (DNVGL-ST-E271: 2017), ISO 10855 (2018) in support of IMO MSC/Circ. 860 (1998), and LR CCS, for the design conditions stated in the documentation and are assigned an appraisal status as shown.
2. The following points are advised for information:
2.1 This unit has been designed, constructed and tested to EN 12079-1 (2006), DNV 2.
2017), ISO 10855-1 (2018) in support of IMO MSC/Circ. 860 of 22 May 1998. IMO MSC/Circ. 860 is a supplementary part of the IMDG code and as such is a legal requirement of SOLAS.
2.2 Our approval does not include in scope the details of the lifting set. It is noted that the sling angle is 30
degrees to the vertical plane, to reduce the loading imposed on the pad eye and framework. It is concluded that the technical specification and data plate will comply with standards.
2.3 It is concluded that the frame material (including lifting lugs) has been impact tested to the requirements
of the above codes and taking account of section thickness. It is noted that the design temperature is -20 degrees C, and the impact testing is concluded to be in accordance with EN 12079-1 (2006), clause 6.1, DNV 2.7-1 (DNVGL-ST-E271: 2017), clause 3.1, and ISO 10855-1 (2018), clause 6.1, and will be suitably verified by the attending surveyor.
2.4 It is concluded that the framework welding & non-destructive examination thereof will be in accordance with the requirements of EN 12079-1, DNV 2.7-1 and ISO 10855-1, which will be verified by the attending surveyor.
2.5 The container is accepted for sufficient shear area in way of fork-lift pockets as required by DNV 2.7-1 (DNVGL-ST-E271: 2017) Appendix C, C2. It is concluded that forklift pockets are suitable for laden lifting and will be conducted in a safe manner.
2.6 It is noted that top protection (FRP plate) is provided to this open frame container. It is concluded that top
protection shall be capable of being securely fitted to the container and shall have a non-slip surface and be designed for a load of 3KN uniformly distributed over an area of 600x300mm located anywhere on the top protection to comply with DNV 2.7-1 (DNVGL-ST-E271: 2017), clause 4.1.4 and ISO 10855-1 (2018), clause 5.4.7 and EN 12079-1. It is noted that the caution mark of “DO NOT WALK ON TOP” is displayed on the container.
2.7 It is concluded that the outside surface will be coated and protected (against corrosion) in accordance with
the requirements of EN 12079-1, DNV 2.7-1 and ISO 10855-1.
2.8 The value of Re for the Padeye material at 25mm thickness is confirmed by certificates at 355 N/mm2. 2.9 Prototype testing is required to this design in accordance with EN 12079-1, DNV 2.7-1 and ISO 10855-1.
2.10 Production testing is required by LR CCS and offshore legislation shall be undertaken and witnessed by the attending surveyor.
2.11 It is concluded that the standard shackle of 8.5 tonnes size is suitable for this unit. It is concluded the
clearance between the shackle pin and padeye hole does not exceed 6% of the shackle pin diameter.
2.12 It is concluded that the cargo carried inside of this open frame container shall be positively secured against loosening/leakage/protruding in service. It is concluded that it is the owner / operator’s responsibility to ensure carriage complied with the above referenced requirements and conducted in safe manner during transportation. LR shall not accept liability for any damage, injury or lost caused by cargo loosening /leakage/protruding.
2.13 All equipment and their attachments installed to the container are excluded from this appraisal. 2.14 It is noted for Offshore purposes that :
